As a boy, Frank was immediately attracted to the printing industry. He
helped set type by hand for the local newspaper in Green Cove Springs,
Florida where he was born. The lye used to clean the type however started
eating at his hands, so he asked for a raise which was refused. It was a
moment which bootstrapped his career and he left Green Cove Springs to
work elsewhere. He moved around the country, taking various printing and
advertising jobs and boasted that he never was without work a day in his
life. He reveled in the knowledge that this quest to stay employed, even
during the great depression, allowed him to see all 50 states. He
eventually settled in Wilmington, Delaware with his first wife Agnes and
son Jude. Here, he gathered a pashion for woodworking and passed this
love to his sons. At the end of his printing career, Frank retired from
Hercules Powder Company and returned to his roots in Green Cove Springs
with his second wife Antonica and new son Frank Jr.
